Gates Millennium Scholarship
The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) scholarship is open a student who
has not yet attended college after high school or GED completion, is
Pell Grant eligible, and demonstrates leadership abilities. Applicant
must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, have a cumulative GPA of
3.3, and will be an entering freshman in an accredited college or
university Fall 2005. The GMS is renewable for up to 9 years.

NSA Undergraduate Training Program
Program for high school seniors (particularly minorities) who are
interested in studying computer science, eletrical or computer
engineering. Program offers full tuition, books, and a salary during the
undergraduate years, as well as a job in the summer. Applicants must
have a minimum GPA 3.0, an ACT score of 27 or SAT score of 1200, and be
a US citizen.

Health Professions Preparatory Scholarships
Applicants must be American Indians or Alaska Native; be high school
graduates or the equivalent; have the capacity to complete a health
professions course of study; and be enrolled or accepted for enrollment
in a compensatory or preprofessional general education course or
curriculum. The qualifying fields of study include pre-medical
technology, pre-dietetics, pre-nursing, pre=pharmacy, pre-physical
therapy, and pre-social work. Recipients must intend to serve Indian
people upon completion of professional health care education as a health
care provider in the discipline for which they are enrolled at the
pregraduate level.

Al-Ben Scholarship
African American students who have demonstrated their commitment and
ability to succeed through academic accomplishments, future goals, and
financial needs. This scholarship is open only to high school students
and offers four $1,000 and five $100 scholarships.

American Chemical Society Scholars Program
This scholarship programs is to encourage African-American,
Hispanic/Latino, and American Indian students who want to enter the
fields of chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or other
chemically related fields such as environmental science, materials
science or toxicology. Must be a US citizen or permanent resident who is
a full time student at an accredited college, university or community
college and have a GPA of 3.0 or better. Student must be able to
demonstrate evidence of financial need according to FAFSA. A high school
senior, college freshman, sophomore or junior intending to or already
majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a chemistry
related science (Note: students planning careers in medicine or pharmacy
are not eligible for this program).

Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) Scholarships
The program currently offers over 30 awards, with an annual total of
over $60,000 in scholarships to qualified students nationwide. This
scholarships offer students at the entering freshman, undergraduate,
graduate, law, financial need and creative & performing arts a one-time
award. Eligibility require all applicants to be National JACL members.
Applicants must be planning to attend a college, university, trade
school, business school, or any other institution of higher learning at
the undergraduate or graduate school level in the fall of 2001. Deadline
for entering Freshman is March 1, 2002 and all other applicants is April
1, 2002

"My Turn" Essay Competition
Sponsored by Kaplan Inc. and Newsweek. High school students nationwide
may compete for a $5,000 scholarship. Students need to write a 500 to
1000 words essay describing personal experiences that have made a
difference in their lives. Judges will select 10 finalists. The second
place winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship and eight runners-up will
receive $1000 scholarships. In addition to the scholarship, a winning
essay may be published in Newsweek magazine.

The Ford Scholars Program
Each year 100 new Ford Scholars are selected in Oregon, with additional
Scholars selected from Siskiyou county, California. The scholarship is
not for a set amount, but is calculated to cover 90% of each student's
college costs that are not covered by other grants and scholarships. The
scholarship is renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.
All applicants must have high school diplomas or GED certificates or be
about to complete high school. Or they must have completed or be
completing two years at an accredited public or private two-year college
in Oregon. --- For Graduate Study: Students who are selected as for this
scholarship as undergraduates and who successfully complete their
baccalaureate degrees as members of the Ford program can apply for up to
two years of additional funding at the graduate level. --- Students must
have achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6 during their
undergraduate years. Awards is based on leadership roles in school or
community activities, community services, work experience, GPA of 3.0 or

This program is to assist college students who are single parents and
living in Oregon. Each year, 50 students are selected in Oregon to
receive this scholarships. The scholarship is not a set amount, but is
calculated to cover 90% of each student's college costs that are not met
by other resources. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years of
undergraduate study. Applicants must be residents of Oregon who are
single parents and also heads of households. All applicants must have
high school diplomas or GED certificates or be about to complete high
